ASC-WDS official launch and benefits bundle

Skills for care spent the last two years making regular developments to the Adult Social Care Workforce Data Set (ASC-WDS) to bring more features and value for users. This week they are officially launching the service and are excited to tell you about all the fantastic benefits it offers.

Around 20,000 care providers are already using the service to access funding for training, safely manage staff and training records and benchmark their workplace against similar providers.

The data collected in the service is vital and is used by the government, the Department for Health and Social Care, local authorities, the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and other decision makers as they plan, fund and monitor the sector.

SfC are also introducing our brand-new ASC-WDS Benefits Bundle for both new and existing users. The bundle contains special offers and discounts across products including savings on resources within our bookshop and special prices on eLearning.
To find out more about the benefits bundle, learn more about the ASC-WDS service or create an account, visit our dedicated webpage.

Skills for Care: Size and structure of the adult social care sector and workforce in England report 2019

New: ‘Guide to developing your staff
Skills for Care have identified four simple steps to create a learning plan for your service including templates to use in the planning process, different ways you can develop your staff and how to evaluate the learning. Regular learning and development will help ensure workers can remain up-to-date with best practice to provide the best care and support.

Improving your service ensures that you deliver the high quality, person-centred care and support that people expect and deserve, and meet the CQC’s fundamental standards.

At the beginning of 2018, 21% of regulated adult social care services in England were delivering care that didn’t meet the CQC's fundamental standards - this puts the people you support, your staff and your organisation at risk. It’s vital that you address any areas for improvement immediately.

Skills For Care ‘Guide to improvement’ explains how to identify, plan and implement improvement across your service. It draws on ‘good’ and outstanding’ practice to help your service to, not only meet CQC expectations, but exceed them.

It includes checklists and examples to help you to identify what your service needs to improve, and to develop an action plan to implement the required changes.

This guide is for anyone involved in driving improvement in CQC regulated adult social care services including directors, board members, registered managers, nominated individuals, quality assurance leads, champions and learning and development leads.

If you want to improve your service, we recommend you read the full guide. If you want to strengthen a particular part of your service, look at the contents page to find the relevant section.

Displaying CQC Rating

Following engagement with trade associations and stakeholders from all sectors we recently made a minor amendment to our guidance. The amendment makes clear that if we assess that your rating is not displayed as required, we will follow our Enforcement Policy to decide our response. Our response and use of enforcement powers will be proportionate to the circumstances of each case.

The regulation also sets out what must be included in the displayed information and CQC has developed posters and digital products to help providers do this easily. We will continue to work with partners to improve our guidance and ensure that providers meet the regulation.
