Information Advice & Guidance to support Care Providers to deliver quality care during COVID-19 Pandemic

The Care Market Development Team have brought together a comprehensive information, advice and guidance page for Staffordshire Care Providers regarding Covid-19, including updates from Staffordshire County Council and key partners. These include Skills for Care, SCIE, CQC, Business Support (available through private membership only) and guidance around Mental Health and Well-being, Medicines Management and Health & Safety. 

Staffordshire County Council – Information for Providers

Staffordshire County Council have comprehensive Coronavirus Care Providers Information resource pages for care providers in the county. They include updates from Dr Richard Harling Director of Health & Care, information re: testing, PPE, FAQ’s, information for different service providers, plus details on how to contact the relevant team for more information at this time.

The Information for Care Homes page includes information on the Capacity Tracker system, identifying that all care homes are required to register on the capacity tracker and to be using it daily even if no change has occurred.

Department for Health and Social Care

The .Gov.UK Coronavirus (Covid-19) resource page is your link to official guidance on the pandemic, covering health and wellbeing, healthcare workers, carers, different care settings, announcements, press conference details and speeches

Skills for Care – News

Every fortnight Skills for Care will send out an Skills for Care e news e-bulletin with their latest news, tools and events. Simply click on the link on the right to register and subscribe to this.

COVID-19 Skills for Care useful guidance from other agencies including guidance from national bodies – including Department for Health and Social Care, Care Quality Commission and Public Health England. Further guidance on specific areas can be found in the sections.

Office for National Statistics (ONS)

The ONS Coronavirus  link provides the latest data and analysis on coronavirus (Covid-19) in the UK and its effect on the economy and society.

Social Care Institute of Excellence (SCIE)

SCIE offers policy and practice support with a huge database of good practice examples in its SCIE coronavirus advice for Social Care e-learning tools and resources.

Support Staffordshire

Support Staffordshire Covid-19  provides details of countywide support for the voluntary community and social enterprise (VCSE) sector.

Business Support available through private membership only

SARCP is a  membership association representing care providers including care homes and home care agencies

Staffordshire Chambers of Commerce deliver services to help businesses to start, grow and succeed. They offer business and enterprise support, relevant events and training for companies.

Mental Health & Well-being

Mental Health UK - brings together expertise from four national mental health charities to provide advice, information and support.

NHS Every Mind Matters – This contains expert advice and practical tips to help support mental health and wellbeing, including this Your Mind Plan interactive quiz to get top tips and advice for you and your staff. 

The NHS website - contains advice on 5 Steps to Mental Well-being to support individuals to feel more positive and able to get the most out of life.

MIND - provide advice and support to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problem.

The Samaritans Mental Health during Covid-19 link offers information, advice and guidance and direct support for individuals.

Moving and handling

The Health & Safety Executive has HSE Moving and Handling in Health & Social Care guidance for employers and employees, particularly those who assess moving and handling needs and carry out handling activities, including for people who receive care within their own home.

CQC: Regulations for service providers and managers: relevant guidance – contains Moving and handling guidance links.

The Royal College of Nursing has Moving and Handling guidance relevant to nurses and health care support workers.

Leadership & Management

Skills for Care - have created ‘New visions for leadership’ which aims to provide support in Developing Leaders & Managers at all levels in social care and to meet current and future challenges.

Health and Safety

The Health & Safety Executive has produced comprehensive Managing risks & risk assessment at work guidance.

Supporting dignity in care

Skills for Care – provides Dignity in care guidance on inductions, and a Common Core Principles toolkit to support good practice

National Dignity Council website and the Dignity in Care Campaign link provides news, resources and networks information in relation to the campaign. The campaign's core values are about having dignity in our hearts minds and actions, changing the culture of care services and placing a greater emphasis on improving the quality of care and the experience of citizens using services including NHS hospitals, community services, care homes and home support services.

Covid-19 Medicines information for adult social care providers

Government Guidance reuse of medicines provides a standard operating procedure on how to run a safe and effective medicines reuse scheme in a care home or hospice during the coronavirus outbreak.

To keep up to date with any changes you might want to sign up to alerts for example via the MHRA Central Alerting System. The Medicine Health and Regulatory Authority has a web-based cascading system for issuing patient safety alerts, important public health messages and other safety critical information and guidance to the NHS and others, including independent providers of health and social care.
