Day opportunities

Staffordshire has a diverse community offer, sometimes known as 'day opportunities'.

This gives you a variety of practical, meaningful and enjoyable activities or opportunities. These enable you to:

  • Express choice and control

  • Build on your independence and life skills

  • Achieve your outcomes

  • Meet your needs, in the most appropriate environment
What we do

We currently run 7 small building-based day opportunities across Staffordshire to meet the needs of individuals with ‘complex needs’.

Alternatively, there a number of day opportunities operating in the independent marketplace by a variety of providers.

Opportunities may be delivered on a group basis or a 1:1 basis. They either use a building base or in the local community, using a variety of resources.

If you have an assessed eligible need for paid day opportunities, your adult learning disability worker will talk to you about the most appropriate options in your local area. This will include talking about how to make a referral, as each service is slightly different.

What happens after referral?

Each service is slightly different. Your adult learning disability worker and representatives from your preferred opportunity will provide all the support you need.

Who will we see?

Every service is slightly different. It will depend on what type of service you need.

What happens when I come to the service?

Usually the organisation providing support will work with you. This will be with appropriate members of your circle of support.

Their aim is to better understand your needs, outcomes and how best to provide care and support.

What happens when I become an adult?

People who have a learning disability aged 18 years or older will need to have a  Care Act compliant assessment. This is to determine if they are eligible to receive paid care and support services.
