COVID-19 and Adult Social Care in Staffordshire Care Market Development Team Update (updated October 2020)

Message from The Care Market Development Team – June 2020

Given the significant impact Covid-19 is having on the care sector, we thought it might be useful to share an update with you in terms of the support, information and guidance we can provide you with and the changes we have implemented in response to the current situation.

Learning & Development / Training

Along with the County Council we have also made the decision to postpone all our training events until 31 July 2020.  Our intention is to reschedule the postponed events as soon as government advice allows us to.

The Care Market Development Team are currently working on ways that our facilitated face to face training can be delivered in line with social distancing guidelines in the future, including virtual training opportunities.

Manager’s Quality Networking Forum (MQNF)

The April 2020 event has been rescheduled until 19 October 2020 and it will be a virtual event on this occasion. Information will be circulated about the event in due course.

Dignity Awards 2020

The Dignity Awards ceremony that was due to be held on 14 July 2020 has been postponed. The date of this will be rearranged. The nomination period has been extended until 31 July 2020. If you know someone going above and beyond in their care for others at any point since July 2019 including this extremely challenging period, we would love to hear from you and look forward to hearing about the difference they have been making to people’s lives. Recruitment and Retention

There are two new national recruitment initiatives coming from the Department of Health & Social Care “Care for Others. Make a Difference” and “Join Social Care” plus a third regional initiative “#Time to Care”.

Care for Others - Make a Difference aims to attract the right people to work in adult social care with the right values now and in the future.

Join Social Care - in response to the ongoing covid-19 pandemic the DHSC has launched an online platform specifically built for both Care Providers & Job Seekers.

#Time to Care  aims to attract jobseekers into a variety of paid roles across the sector (Admin, Care staff, Cooks, Domestics), to help Care Providers manage their staffing needs during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Workforce Development Fund (WDF)

CMDT have supported the disbursement of more than half a million pounds over the past `five years from the WDF scheme to Care Providers on Staffordshire. WDF is funding from the DHSC, supporting the provision of high-quality care and the continual professional development of staff.
