The Care Market Development Team have introduced virtual training events supporting provider concerns with face to face training and transmission risks associated with Covid-19.

These learning opportunities and events may be free of charge or may require a payment for places. The “hints” below are provided to assist booking places for yourself and your employees.

  3. Check the event details page and follow instruction in the “My Bookings” directions.
  4. Check you emails for payment instructions and confirmation of your booking
    Please note that payment for attendance is by using Staffordshire County Council's online payment system and invoicing is not available for chargeable virtual events
  5. A place on the course can only be confirmed following completion of the online payment and will be subject to unallocated places remaining on the course.
  6. Following receipt of the booking email, payment should be made within 2 working days (excluding weekends and bank holidays).
    There is no invoicing option for courses. Only card payments can be accepted.
  7. Course bookings will be confirmed on a first come, first served basis. Bookings can be held for the duration of the 2 working days following receipt of the booking email, subject to unallocated places still being available on the course.
  8. If payment has not been received within 2 working days, the place will be released.
  9. If the 2 working days has lapsed since the course booking has been made without payment and you are still interested in securing a place on this course, please contact us by forwarding this email to cmdt@staffordshire.gov.uk requesting a rebooking of your place and we will check availability for you.

Managers Quality Networking Forum - 18th September 2019

On 18th September 2019 Staffordshire County Council will be hosting the Managers Quality Networking Forum (MQNF) at Staffordshire County Showground. The bi-annual event, which has been running for 7 years, is a fantastic opportunity for care providers across Staffordshire to come together to network, share best practice and have the opportunity to hear from keynote speakers and take part in a range of workshops throughout the day.

Speakers and workshop leads will include:-

We invite 50 stand holders from across the sector who have the opportunity to engage with the market place over the course of the whole day.

AM session workshops

1. DMI - Challenging Behaviour/Positive Behaviour Support

De-escalation Management & Intervention (DMI) Training, delivered by Gary Firkins (DMI Service Lead) is a holistic approach that looks at risk assessing and putting care plans in place to allow for the earliest possible non-physical interventions to take place as well as equipping staff with the skills needed to deal with situations where a physical intervention might be needed.

To also introduce the Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) framework for developing an understanding of an individual’s challenging behaviour and for using this understanding to develop effective support which seeks to minimise the use of restrictive practices in social and health care settings.

2. CQC – Medicine Management in Adult Social Care (FULLY BOOKED)

3. Daily Sparkle (the Activity Co-ordinator’s friend) - Making Person-Centre Care a Reality

This workshop will be delivered by the Chris Harding, Managing Director of the ‘The Daily Sparkle’ - The Daily Sparkle is a reminiscence newspaper specially developed to provide daily stimulation, interest, enjoyment and fun for older people and people living with dementia. It is a daily newspaper which is about the world many older people live in, a world which we see as the past, but which is often their experience of reality. The Workshop will focus on: making person-centred care a reality, getting to know the person, giving the person choice and making it personal. Specific Activity Co-ordinator’s Training will be offered via CMDT on 4/10/19 & 13/2/20.

4. The usage of CCTV in care homes and usage of social media –

This workshop will be delivered by Nikki Proctor, Information Governance Officer, Staffordshire County Council. The workshop will cover recommendations on the use of CCTV systems to help organisations comply with their data protection obligations. How will the GDPR impact your social media activity? It will discuss how you'll need to adapt in the wake of the GDPR, and understand what cyber threats are, the potential impact a cyber-attack will have and the steps required to reduce risk and prevent cyber-crime infiltrating your online workspace.

5. Oral Health Care

Following on from the June 2019 CQC Review ‘Smiling Matters – Oral health care in care homes’, Kate Taylor-Weetman (Consultant in Dental Public Health, Public Health England) and Jill Allbutt (Senior Health Improvement Specialist - Oral Health at Stoke PCT) will deliver an hour’s workshop on the importance of good oral health care to service-users and residents, and how this can be promoted and managed well within any care setting.
