24/7 service
We accept referrals from parents/carers and young people themselves. We also accept them from any professional who knows the young person well (for example – school, social care, GP or paediatrician).
Access the new Combined Wellbeing portal, where you can complete an online referral.
Referral forms are also available to download from our website.
Who will we see?
At your first appointment with the CAMHS service children and parents meet with someone from one of our CAMHS teams.
Our teams are made up of different staff including:
- Nurses
- Psychologists
- Psychiatrists
- CAMHS social workers
- Parenting specialists
If further appointments are needed you may not meet the same member of staff. This will depend on the outcome of your child’s assessment and identified needs.
What happens when I come to the service?
We will speak with your child, asking questions about how they are feeling and what might be causing them to feel this way. We will also ask parents for their input throughout the assessment.
What happens when I become an adult?
When young people are 17 years old and are being seen by the CAMHS service, staff will discuss a transition plan to continue their care if appropriate when they are old enough to access adult services.
What happens after referral?
The hub team review the referral information in the first instance and decide whether CAMHS is the most appropriate service.
There are a number of other services that we work in partnership with including:
- Younger Minds
- The Dove Service
- The North Staffordshire Wellbeing Service
- Healthy Minds Stoke on Trent
- Changes Young People
Sometimes we recommend one of these services as more appropriate.
How do I find out more?
- There is more information available on the CAMHS website.
- Young people can prepare for their first appointment by going to the CAMHS Ready website.
