Paediatrics - East and West

NHS funded services

We see children from 0 to 18 years (19 years if in a special school) who have 2 or more areas of developmental delay.

We also cover child protection medicals Monday to Friday and see children for initial health assessment medicals.

Who can use your service?

We see children who have a GP within the Lichfield, Tamworth, Uttoxeter and Burton areas.

For children within a special school, we see any child in the school in these same areas.

For learning disability referrals, any professional or service can refer.

Are there any costs?

There are no costs to the patient.

How do I refer?

Referrals can be made from any health professional with our referral form.

These can be sent back in the post or to our secure email.

What happens after referral?

All children will be seen within 18 weeks of referral.

They will be sent an appointment in the post.

Who will we see?

This will depend on the reason for referral.

Within the team we have:

  • Paediatricians
  • Nursery nurses
  • Occupational therapists
  • Clinical nurse specialists

Within the learning disability team we have learning disability nurses.

For learning disability appointments they will offer a screening appointment to begin with to gather information before being allocated to the appropriate professional.

What happens when I come to the service?

An initial assessment will take place for standard appointments and treatment will be planned at the end of this and agreement made for future appointments.

This will vary in time depending on the reason for referral.

What happens when I become an adult?

If needed, transition will be made to the appropriate adult services and joint appointments offered if needed.
