Be My Tutor

Be My Tutor is a leading online tuition provider with a highly skilled team of fully qualified teachers and tutors. Our teaching and learning is overseen by Director Adam Haffner (QTS), our Director of Special Education Needs Katy Cameron (QTS) and Associate Principal Rob Lock (QTS).

Be My Tutor work with home-schooled students and students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). Our tutors undertake a rigorous interview and induction programme. We cover all subjects and age ranges from Key Stage 1-Key Stage 5 and prepare students for GCSEs and A Levels.

Being one of the first tuition providers in the UK to pioneer remote learning - long before the pandemic saw other providers taking to online platforms to facilitate learning - we are leading the way in providing high-quality, bespoke tuition to individuals and groups of pupils. We currently work with several local authorities and we have been able to assist them in rapidly providing excellent online teaching for children and young adults with SEND. We deliver everything from individual subject lessons to entire packages of daily schooling. Our flexible team specialises in working with young people with various special needs; we are safeguarding trained and all DBS checked. All our lessons are delivered in a safe and purpose-built online space.

We ensure that our tutors are all fully trained in safeguarding and the latest KCSIE legislation. For tutors working with vulnerable pupils, they have access to further training including level 3 training (which is to a level suitable for designated safeguarding leads).  We have a huge range of skills and expertise with our team so will aim to source the most appropriate tutor to meet the pupil’s needs.

We are currently building a networking hub, which Be My Tutor is hosting, to develop a network of similar providers to access training, share practice and develop networks further.

Whether a pupil has specialist advice and/or targets to identify their learning, such as an ECHP, we work in collaboration with the school’s SEND and Inclusion team.  We always consider the needs of each pupil thoroughly and endeavour to match them to the best possible tutor to support their needs, based on the tutor’s skillset, training and experience. Our Director of SEND is a very experienced practitioner and advisor - offering a wealth of knowledge, understanding and support at ensuring the best outcome for each pupil.

What happens when I become an adult?

Our mentor programme encourages home-schooled students who are out of mainstream education to volunteer locally as a positive boost to their mental wellbeing, an opportunity to encourage social communication, and a chance to make a positive contribution to their local area. We encourage our students to be advocates for positive local change and to gain life skills and confidence in the community: we believe this is integral to their wellbeing and self-esteem.

We arrange work experience and offer career guidance in the local area. Our students work in local shops and businesses to obtain crucial work experience and develop their life skills. We offer impartial careers advice (our Senior Leadership are trained and experienced in this).
