The volunteers at SDCHT are unpaid carers themselves, so understand it is vital to recharge your batteries. We believe that although it is helpful to be provided with regular breaks, nothing makes up for a proper holiday away from the caring role - how many of you have used respite for the cared for but instead of resting you do the things you haven't been able to complete while caring for your loved ones - I know we have. Also we find that most carers want to take the cared for with them on holiday because many dislike respite care.

We are a small local charity that provides caravan holidays for Unpaid carers. We have a beautiful static caravan sited in the Haven Resorts Cala Gran holiday park near Blackpool, this is a fully compliant disabled unit with wheelchair access throughout and wet room facility, this was kindly funded recently by the National Lottery Community Fund.

Cala Gran Blackpool is a busy site with plenty of activities (subject to current and evolving COVID-19 regulations) with entertainment passes included for you to access various facilities that are on site.

Details: Costing of holiday will be discussed at the time of your enquiry - we offer all holidays on a not for profit basis, part funding may be available following a full carers assessment via the county council, please contact your support worker for details.

We require a referral from a relevant support agency that you are registered with, for example CASS, North Staffs Carers, N Compass, etc.

Other notes

Our fully registered charity is a not for profit organisation that was launched 2017 to support the mental and physical wellbeing of UnpaidCarers and is primarily run by an Unpaid Carer who realises just how important that this service is.

We are a multi award winning charity at both Borough & County Council level, nobody who runs the charity is waged at all, we would also like to thank the National Lottery Community Fund for their much valued help in making this at all possible.

We have set up a donation page on Go Fund Me this will help us make the project both sustainable and at the lowest cost to Unpaid Carers.
