East Staffordshire Family Support Service / Harvey Girls / Dads4Dads
East Staffordshire Family Support Service evolved from Harvey Girls, established in 2003, to offer early help and support to local families in the area. Our provision has now been extended to offer whole family support to local families with children aged between 0-19.
We offer a whole family approach, empowering families to reach their full potential. We deliver professional, home based, practical support, designed to meet the needs of families with children aged 0-19 years of age, with varying needs. We strive to support stable, positive family networks in which all family members can thrive.
Our aim is to strengthen families and communities by building skills and resilience, whilst improving outcomes for children and families. Guidance is on hand for: parenting skills/ finding and accessing local services/ dealing with feelings of isolation or low self-esteem/ information about your child's development and education/ financial pressures/ housing issues/ returning to education or accessing work.
Proactive Home Visiting
East Staffordshire Family Support Service also carries out Proactive Home Visits – a programme introduced by Staffordshire County Council.
We make contact with local families who have a child aged 2 and under. Each family is provided with a ‘Proactive Visit Pack’ full of information about activities, services and facilities in the local area. There is also the opportunity to find out more about what East Staffordshire Family Support Service can offer you.
The visit gives families the tools and information they need to ensure their children grow up in a great community, enjoying good health and wellbeing.
We also offer sessional support. Families can access this support either directly or via key workers delivering our home based outreach service.
Harvey Girls was founded in 2004 with the aim of guiding mums, through the everyday issues that they may be facing. Whether it’s a friendly chat, advice, help with parenting, going back to work, housing, or if they just want to socialise with other new mums, we offer a warm and friendly setting where mums can be themselves.
Harvey Girls sessions offer parent-focused activities and support for mums and their children, covering a wide range of topics that will engage and inspire you. The sessions aim to promote positive parent – child interaction, mapped to Early Year’s Foundation Skills and Health and Wellbeing outcomes.
Established in 2011, Dads4Dads is a support group for dads, offering practical, fun and educational sessions that will motivate and inspire.
Our warm, friendly group setting will enable dads to meet other dads from a range of backgrounds.
Regardless of age or circumstance we are here to help and support. Covering a host of parent-focused topics, our sessions aim to educate, empower and motivate dads.
We offer a safe environment in which dads can play and bond with their children; whatever their preconceptions of fatherhood, we can help them to embrace every moment.

How can I refer?
We accept referrals from professionals and self-referrals. You can access our referral form via our website; www.eaststaffordshirefamilysupport.co.uk or by telephoning the service on 01283 533449.
What happens after referral?
Outreach: Once we receive a referral we carry out a number of checks to establish the level of need for each family. This usually takes up to 5 working days. We will then be in touch with the referrer to confirm the name of the key worker to whom the family have been allocated. We endeavour to visit the family within 5 working days of allocation.
Please note that if a family are working with the Local Support team (LST) then we are unable to co-work with this family, unless it is part of an exit strategy from the LST.
Sessions: Once we receive a referral for sessions, a member of the sessional team will be in touch with the client to arrange attendance at the group.
What happens when I come to the service?
Appointments take place weekly, and within the family home, where appropriate, or at a venue agreed with the family. Initially we will carry out an Early Help Assessment (EHA) which can take up to 6 weeks and allows us to get to know the family in more detail, highlights their strengths and identifies areas they wish to develop in. From this assessment we work alongside the family to develop a whole family plan, incorporating realistic, achievable goals for the family. On average, families receive support for up to 26 weeks.
What happens when I become an adult?
We work with the whole family and signpost on to other specialist services, where appropriate, such as mental health services, substance misuse services, domestic violence support services, etc. Therefore, regardless of whether you are a child or an adult, East Staffordshire Family Support Service can support you and your family.
