How do I refer?

A range of professionals can refer to the CAMHS Service, such as, GPs, school nurses, local support teams and counselling services. These professionals can use the form below to make a referral.

What happens after referral?

The referral is screened by the CAMHS Team.

If the referral is accepted a letter will be sent to the parent/guardian/young person and the referrer to offer a first appointment. Following the first appointment, a second appointment will be sent to be seen by the most appropriate clinician depending on the reason for referral. Treatment times also vary depending on the reason for referral.

If the referral is not accepted, depending on the reasons for this, we may contact the parent/guardian/young person or referrer for more information, or for consent to signpost the referral to an appropriate service.

Who will we see?

Our CAMHS team is made up of of:

  • Psychiatrists
  • Social workers
  • Psychologists
  • Psychotherapists
  • Art therapists
  • Nurses
  • Assistant psychologists

The reason for referral will determine which clinician the young person will see.

What happens when I come to the service?

At your first appointment, the clinician will gather more information.

From this we will hold a discussion with the wider CAMHS team so we can appoint the most appropriate clinician to work with you.

What happens when I become an adult?

If needed, a transition will be made to the adult mental health team. This will be completed over a period of time and may involve some joint appointments with children’s and adult services.
