Douglas Road Respite: High quality respite for adults with learning disabilities and autism
Offering high quality Respite Care or ‘short breaks’ for up to 13 adults with a Learning Disability and/ or Autism, who may also have a range of complex physical needs, health needs or behaviours that challenge.
Our Purpose
Staffordshire County Council are a provider of social care services for adults with a learning disability and autism. We specialise in supporting adults with complex needs, profound and multiple learning disabilities and behaviours that challenge. Our mission is to provide opportunities and choice so that individuals can thrive, and our vision is to be leaders in creating a future where people with complex needs can thrive.
We appreciate the incredible dedication of carers, along with the challenges and responsibilities that may come with supporting someone with a Learning Disability or Autism. We understand the importance of carers having a chance to recharge their batteries, to allow them to carry on in their caring role. We also believe in the benefits for the individual of having a break away from home for a few days. They are supported establish new friendships, join in internal and external activities, and have some fun when staying for respite.
Our Approach
You can be reassured that your loved one is receiving quality care and support in a caring environment and will be supported by friendly, knowledgeable and experienced staff who are dedicated to providing the best possible stay for our guests. The staff team are previous winners of a Staffordshire ‘Dignity in Care Award’ for creativity in the ways they support individuals with complex needs.
The service is currently rated ‘Good’ in all areas with the Care Quality Commission.
What We Offer
The service has a dedicated sensory room, and staff that are passionate about supporting individuals to relax through sensory experiences.
The garden areas are landscaped, with sensory planting and activity areas, and guests are welcome to help maintain the garden during their stay if they choose to.
We are also able to support the assessment process for individuals who may be looking to move into alternate accommodation, by supporting the individual to learn new skills, such as domestic tasks, finances and budgeting and community presence.
