Work Routes

Work Routes helps long-term unemployed people start and sustain work.  It’s a voluntary programme which is tailored to meet the needs of local jobseekers. A range of personal support to help overcome the barriers to work is available for up to one year across Staffordshire.

Who can use our service?

Participants must be aged 16 or over and have been unemployed or economically inactive for more than six months. They must be legally resident and have the right to take paid employment in the UK. To be eligible for Work Routes in Stoke and Staffordshire, participants must:

  • Be long-term unemployed or inactive (26 weeks or longer) or
  • Have a basic skills need

Members are also eligible at any stage of being unemployed or inactive if they have more than one barrier to employment. These may include:

  • Lone parent
  • Older worker (50+)
  • Ex-offender
  • Ethnic minority
  • Caring responsibilities (inc. returning to employment when these end)
  • Physical disability or health condition
  • Mental Health or Learning Disability
  • Drug / Alcohol dependency
  • Have low or no qualifications
  • Language barrier

You will be referred to one of our 20 delivery partners.

What happens when I come to the service?

Work Routes helps unemployed people find and sustain employment. Our free service enables jobseekers to improve their skills and employability and create a personal plan to find the right job for them.

Regular 1-2-1 personal guidance is available from a friendly Adviser, as well as group training, financial support and exclusive local job vacancies.
