We provide services to adults and children who have an identified caring role. We work with children as young as 5 years old up to 18.

At the Carers Hub we can offer a wide range of services to young carers which includes our trade marked schools Program ‘You Can’. You Can is a 6 week program designed to help young people who have a caring role, to build self-esteem and better peer relationships within the school setting.  This has been well received by the schools we have worked with.  We often abbreviate young carers to YC so the ‘You Can’ program uses those initials whilst sending the positive message that carers can achieve and can be a part of something!

The idea behind You Can is to not just support young carers in the short term, but to leave a legacy to schools and give them skills and support-networks in school, so they feel able to manage their caring responsibilities. As part of our offer to schools, we will be asking the school to provide a member of staff to support the program. During the 6 sessions they will get to know the young carers and build important links with The Carers Hub staff who are delivering the program. At the end of the 6 weeks the expectation is that the ‘Legacy Leader’ takes the group forward and provides the group with a day, time and space each week for them to continue to meet up.

The Carers Hub staff will still check into these groups from time to time and may be able to fund/support ideas that may come from this group. The legacy leader could be a teacher, teaching assistant, receptionist, school nurse etc.
