Who is the course for?

This course is for Staffordshire residents aged 19+. It is designed for beginners or for those with some very basic knowledge of using a computer or device. Have you got a new device and want to learn how to use it? An ideal course for beginners to give you the confidence to use your device, access the internet and email. No previous knowledge is necessary. You can use the library computers or your own device.

Aim of the course

The aim of the course is to give you confidence in using a computer or your own device to access programs, use the Internet and Email.

What will the course cover?

The course could cover the following areas: using the computer or device, accessing and searching the Internet, Sending and replying to emails and basic e-safety.

Where and when is it?

Except for some very small libraries, most libraries in Staffordshire offer these courses usually in the morning or afternoon. Ask a member of the library staff for information.

Additional Information

Teaching will include tutor led sessions in small groups, some 1:1 tuition, tutor demonstration, quizzes, and practical exercises. You will work at your own pace and will complete the activities using your device.

You learning progress will be recorded. Your tutor will support you throughout your learning journey. Your tutor will get to know you and what you want to achieve from the course and include this in the delivery of sessions. You will also have the opportunity to have some one-to-one time with your tutor. Depending on you circumstances and the type of course, you may be required to pay a course fee. Fees are charged at £4.50 per hour and are payable in full at the beginning of the course. Learners will be set one main activity each session. This will be assessed by the tutor.

On completion of all the activities the learner will receive a certificate. On enrolment you will need to provide proof of ID (passport, national ID card, driver's licence) and proof of eligibility. For the course you will need a pen, a note pad and a documents folder. For homework you will need an internet connected device, either a PC, a laptop, an iPad, tablet or smart phone. Learners can progress onto Essential Digital Skills for Improvers
