We assess individuals who are experiencing difficulties with activities of daily living as a result of injury or disability and provide advice and recommend appropriate equipment to facilitate independence and a safe environment.

Who can use the service?

Anyone with a physical or sensory disability.

Are there any costs?

There is no cost to the individual, unless they are recommended to self-purchase items of equipment to assist them, not funded by the NHS or social care.

How do I refer?

Referrals are usually made by the Healthcare Department, staff working in Safer Custody or via a social worker.

What happens after referral?

Appointment arranged with the Healthcare Department and assessment carried out in an individual’s cell, or healthcare room.

What happens when I come to the service?

Assessment will take place and then advice and recommendations made with regard to techniques and/or equipment to assist the person. Advice will also be made to the young offender institution or prison with regard to equipment or adaptations they may need to undertake.

What happens when I become an adult?

The service continues.
