ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) - Tamworth
If English is not your first language and you would like to become more confident in speaking, listening, reading or writing, the Community Learning Service delivers a range of accredited courses which will help you to improve skills for employment and everyday life.
We deliver English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) courses in Burton-upon-Trent, Lichfield,Tamworth and Stafford.
Courses are delivered to suit your needs and include Speaking & Listening and Reading and Writing. Courses are available at the following levels:
- Entry 1
- Entry 2
- Entry 3
- Level 1
Courses last approximately, 40 hours for Reading, 50 hours for Writing and 70 hours for Speaking and Listening.
Toward the end of your course you will sit an exam. On successful completion you will achieve an Ascentis Skills for Life ESOL qualification.
Teaching will be face-to-face in a classroom setting and you will have opportunities to learn with others. You will be required to complete some homework activities for you to complete online. Your tutor will give you feedback on your progress and achievement throughout the course.

- These courses cost £4.50 per hour for Staffordshire Residents aged 19 or over, who have a legal right of residence in the UK. If you do not meet this eligibility criteria the cost per hour is £9. Fee concessions are available to some learners who are low waged, on Universal Credit or other benefits and looking for work

You will have an interview with a tutor consisting of a short discussion and a small reading and writing task to find out your level of learning. You will discuss the results with the tutor and agree what level you will study at.
These courses are for learners who are:
- Staffordshire residents aged 19+
- have a legal right to be resident in the United Kingdom
