Stafford Welcomes Refugees

Stafford Welcomes Refugees (SWR) is a voluntary group of local people set up in 2015 to press for the UK to take its fair share of refugees fleeing war and persecution, and to provide a welcome and support for those coming to Stafford.
We work on 4 main fronts
- supporting displaced people in Stafford
- raising awareness about the situation for displaced people through activities such as school workshops, public displays and talks to local groups
- campaigning nationally and locally by lobbying Government, our MP and local councils to receive more refugees into the UK
- to develop Stafford as a Town of Sanctuary by encouraging schools, faith buildings, leisure services, local organisations etc to commit to becoming a welcoming place of sanctuary for displaced people living in Stafford.

- Notes
If you are a refugee or asylum seeker living in Stafford or one of the surrounding towns, and you need information or support then we are happy to try to help you. We were set up in 2015 and have gathered a good knowledge of local services, organisations and contacts to help in offering advice and support. We also offer practical help such as facilitating informal ESOL/conversational English sessions, social events, training and coordinating Befrienders and by distributing donated goods to local refugees and asylum seekers. Our website gives more details and has a contact form.
