Home Start Staffordshire Moorlands Family Support
Home-Start Staffordshire Moorlands is a charity that offers support, friendship and practical help to parents with young children in the Staffordshire Moorlands’ District. We offer regular weekly support in the families own home to families experiencing difficulties and challenges.
We provide support for families with at least one child under 5. The support is delivered both through Family Support Workers and also volunteers, who are all trained and DBS cleared. Support is informal, friendly and confidential.
Support is provided to families facing a wide range of issues. This may include coping with disability; special needs or a diagnosis of a serious illness. We may be able to help if you:
- have just received a diagnosis, or are in the early stage
- are attending hospital appointments,
- need help finding out what support might be available to you, or
- just needing an extra pair of hands.
Who can use our service?
Our support primarily focuses on the early years (0-4 years). We are also able to offer support in some cases to families with older children and can signpost to other agencies locally who may be able to provide help. We are only able to help families living in the Staffordshire Moorlands district.
Are there any costs?
There are no costs.
How do I refer?
What happens after referral?
One of our members of staff will contact the family. We will arrange to come and see you to find out what you need help with and to see if we can help. We will make an assessment of your needs and aim to provide support that is flexible and meets your needs.
What happens when I come to the service?
Home-Start is a home visiting service, so we will come to you. Once you have been matched with a member of staff or volunteer able to help, they will visit for around two hours a week, once a week. They will provide emotional support, friendship and some practical help. We will discuss with you what help you need and endeavour to tailor support to your needs.
What age range do you support?
Home-Start primarily supports families when their children are 0-4, however, some support is provided for families with older children in certain circumstances. We do not provide support for adults, though we do provide help to parents in need of help (eg: this could mean if you are a parent with a disability).
