Alternative Provision Dynamic Purchasing System
Equal Education

Equal Education (EE) is a social enterprise with over 8 years’ experience delivering 1:1 tuition to vulnerable children, including Children in Care and those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

Since 2015, we have worked with 114 schools and 35 Local Authorities, providing provision to 1500+ pupils in 35 subjects from functional skills to A-Levels. We take pride in employing only qualified teachers aligned with our social values to help pupils overcome barriers to learning, increase their aspiration and narrow the attainment gap. We offer mentoring and careers guidance for students in order to get them ready to access educational opportunities.

We offer both supplementary, Alternative Provision, medical tuition, tuition for children who have been excluded whilst working closely with parents/carers as most of our tuition takes place at the child/young person’s home with an adult supervising.

Sessions can be online or in-person, depending on the preference of the young person. We have also provided tuition in settings including schools, Alternative Provision schools, Pupil Referral Units, and Hospital Education settings.

Who can use our service?

Our services are aimed at Children in Care, adopted, medical needs and those with special educational needs, although we offer our services to students eligible for pupil premium. Tutors are recruited for their experience and passion for working with children with complex needs, including: Autism Spectrum Disorder, childhood trauma, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, and Friedreich’s ataxia. Tutors build positive, trusting relationships, particularly important for vulnerable children, build learners’ confidence and self-esteem.

Age range/key stages covered:

Our tutors can work from early years to post-16, covering Key Stages 1-5.

Areas served

All of Staffordshire and neighbouring counties can be served, as we recruit tutors locally and offer online provision.

Are there any costs?

£45 per hour for supplementary tuition;

£65 per hour for Alternative Provision

Referral details

Our new referral form asks whether the young person has a Personal Education Plan or Education Health & Care Plan. We gain and share as much information on the child’s needs and aims of the provision as possible in the new referral form.

What happens when I become an adult?

Our key strengths are effective multi-agency working; entering children for external examinations ranging from Functional Skills to GCSE’s. We work with Local Authorities and schools to parallel plan and secure long term progression destinations, pegged to the Gatsby benchmarks. Young people we have worked with have progressed to work in construction, as a car mechanic, health & social care, and beauty therapy. We have also worked to secure access to University and Foundation courses at college including Veterinary Care. We have an extensive network of corporates and apprenticeship providers (including EY, PwC, Barclays, Sutton Trust) and links with local employees in order to provide opportunities for our young people to access work experience and apprenticeship opportunities.
